About So Nearly Missed

Some things deserve a second look.

I’m Mikaela, the person behind So Nearly Missed. From my home in Cornwall, I search for vintage pottery, original artwork, unusual books and curious objects that might otherwise have been overlooked.

I’ve always been drawn to pieces with character: the beautifully made, the slightly unexpected and the things that reveal more the longer you look at them. I’m not interested in filling the shop with anything old simply because it is old. Every item is individually chosen because of its craftsmanship, history, design or sheer ability to stop me in my tracks.

Cornish and British studio pottery are particular passions of mine. Cornwall has an extraordinary creative heritage, from the influential potters of St Ives to Troika and the many independent makers who worked throughout the county. Alongside these pieces, you’ll find distinctive European ceramics, vintage glass, art, books and those wonderfully difficult-to-categorise finds that deserve a place of their own.

Part of the pleasure lies in the discovery. Maker’s marks are researched, signatures investigated and forgotten histories brought back into view wherever possible. Some pieces come with a recognised name; others remain mysterious but are no less worthy of attention.

Everything at So Nearly Missed is chosen, photographed and described by me. These are objects with history, so signs of age are recorded honestly rather than hidden. I want you to know exactly what you are buying—and to feel that little spark of recognition when you find the piece that was very nearly missed.
